Celebrating Artists Over 50 

London, UK – May 29, 2024 – Unit 1 Gallery | Workshop is thrilled to announce a flash open call for its upcoming exhibition, “50/50,” a dynamic showcase celebrating the resilience, dedication, and long-term perseverance of artists over 50

The “50/50” exhibition will feature an inspiring selection of works from artists that are often overlooked and are often emerging talent, often those of who have not only honed their skills but have also navigated the challenging landscape of the art world with unwavering determination. This exhibition seeks to honour those who have consistently pushed forward, demonstrating that true artistic success is a marathon, not a sprint.

Flash Open Call Information:

Unit 1 Gallery | Workshop invites artists over 50 from all disciplines and backgrounds to submit their work for consideration. Whether you are an emerging artist who has recently found your stride or a seasoned professional with decades of experience, we want to hear your story and see your art.

 

Key Dates

Submission Deadline: Midnight, June 7, 2024

Selection Announcement: June 8, 2024

 

Eligibility:

– Open to artists aged 50 and above, of all nationalities and backgrounds.

– All mediums are welcome, including painting, sculpture, photography, installation, and digital art.

– Submissions must include a brief artist statement outlining the personal journey and challenges faced in the pursuit of art.

 

How to Submit:

Artists are encouraged to submit their work via email to info@unit1gallery-workshop.com 

The submission should include:

– Max 3 images of recent & available work (JPEG or PNG format)

– An artist statement (max 500 words)

– A CV or bio detailing relevant experience and exhibitions

Selection

Selected artists will be notified on June 8, 2024, and their work will be exhibited at the gallery during the “50/50” exhibition. This is a unique opportunity to gain exposure and celebrate your artistic journey in a prominent London gallery.  All selected artists will be awarded a free year subscription to FairArtFair a new art world digital destination to connect, organise and discover.

 

Exhibition Information:

Visitors to the “50/50” exhibition can expect to see a diverse range of artworks that tell compelling stories of perseverance and artistic evolution. The exhibition will be open to the public from June 21, 2024, to July 20, 2024, with a private view on June 20, 2024. The gallery is open Tuesday to Saturday from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Admission is free, and all are welcome to attend.

 

Unit 1 Gallery | Workshop reserves the right to refuse works and is under no obligation to the artists to exhibit works that may not meet the standards of the gallery and were not apparent in photographic representations.

Works exhibited will be offered for sale and Unit 1 Gallery Workshop with have a 50% share of agreed sale price.

 

About Unit 1 Gallery | Workshop and the Workshop Foundation:

Unit 1 Gallery | Workshop is an exhibition and residency space in London and unique in its approach to bringing artists and their practices to the public. They support a diverse range of emerging and mid-career contemporary artists by providing them with space and time to develop their practice, network within our growing community, be mentored by team members and crucially be introduced to their expansive network of collectors, art educators, professionals and visitors.

Through their residency programmes and exhibitions, they give artists, curators and theorists a platform to present work and share ideas as well as creating an environment for freethinking and exchange.

They have now organised more than 40 exhibitions with over 120 artists and curators, with 10 exhibitions and 25 artists in residence a year, drawing in international audiences and participants, as well as being a local landmark in the community of Kensington and Chelsea and its surrounds.

Unit 1 Gallery | Workshop was founded in 2015 by artist Stacie McCormick in a former builder’s merchant.
